Further, entrance into the paramedic technology program at Delaware Technical and Community College (the only institution in the state offering this level of training) must complete two semesters of pre-technology coursework before applying to enter the paramedic technology program.

Description of EMT Paramedic School Programs in Delaware

There are three primary level of EMS training available in Delaware: First Responder, EMT-Basic, and EMT-Paramedic.

First Responder is the most basic form of training and lasts about 40 hours. It’s aimed individuals who may need emergency health knowledge but for whom emergency medicine is not their primary job (i.e. police and firefighters). This training covers what a student should do if they are the first person on the scene until more experienced help arrives.

EMT-Basic training courses is the beginning course on the path towards EMT training. It covers basic life support, use of an Automatic External Defibrillator, and how to assess, monitor, and transport individuals from the scene of the medical emergency to a hospital. This course of study lasts at least 120 hours. Individuals must become certified at the EMT-B level by the National Registry after this course for it to be recognized by the state of Delaware.

Paramedic Training is the next level of emergency medical training in Delaware. Individuals spend approximately 2,000 training hours divided between classrooms, labs, and internship experiences. The program covers advanced life support techniques, cardiac life support, pediatrics, and specialized trauma certification. Individuals must recertify at the EMT-Paramedic level with National Registry after completing this course.
