EMT trainingin the state of Missouri begins at the EMT-B level. These courses typically take between 8 to 16 weeks to complete. Information covered in these courses include basic medical life support techniques, CPR, use of Automated External Defibrillators, and training in pregnancy assistance (primarily in assisting in complicated deliveries).
The upper level of emergency health training available in Missouri is Paramedic Training. These courses come in either one year certificate programs or two years programs that result in Associate in Applied Science degrees. These courses cover all aspects of paramedical treatment, including extraction techniques, cardiac support, trauma management, patient assessment, medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology. These classes are divided somewhat evenly between lectures, lab work, and in the field internships that provided a first hand applications for these training programs.
After each stage of training, individuals must take the exam to become certified with the National Registry of EMT’s. In addition to maintaining National Registry certification, paramedics must also maintain an advanced cardiac life support certification to maintain their state of Missouri license.
