Description of EMT Paramedic School Programs in Ohio
First responder classes are offered in Ohio. These classes tend to be focused towards non-medical personnel who may be at the scene of a medical emergency. These courses typically last around three credit hours and require state (but not national) certification.
EMT training in Ohio begins at the EMT-B level. These courses provide students with the information necessary to meet both the Ohio and National Registry requirements for EMT-B certification. Typical information covered in these courses includes the proper way to administer emergency medical support, airway management, the use of automated external defibrillators, and patient transportation techniques. These courses typically last four to six weeks and result in a certificate of completion
EMT-Paramedic programs of study extend a student’s knowledge beyond the EMT-B level, and they allow a student to reach the top level of certification currently allowed by the state of Ohio These programs last anywhere from one to two years, and individuals either graduate with a certificate or an Associate in Applied Science in Paramedic Science (or a related field). Courses typically mix lecture with clinical and fieldwork to provide a multi-faceted education. Typical classes include anatomy and physiology, disaster response, cardiology, pharmacology, and trauma management.
After graduating from one of the EMT Paramedic school programs in Ohio, individuals must sit for the National Registry of EMTs examination. After they pass the practical and written exams, they may then seek licensure by the Ohio Department of EMS
